Lush indigenous vegetation and forests framed by majestic mountain ranges on the one side and the Indian Ocean with its pristine white beaches on the other, makes the Garden Route, on the east coast of South Africa, one of the country's most beautiful areas.
Hog Hollow Country Lodge, a private nature reserve, 18km east of the small costal town of Plettenberg Bay, is situated in the heart of this magnificent landscape, providing guests with an ideal base from which to explore the Garden Route.
Attractions nearby are surprisingly diverse and range from guided walks by the resident naturalist to bird watching, mountain biking, trips along the local arts and crafts route and horse riding trails in the surrounding forest and fynbos. A unique and exciting feature of this region is the abundance of marine mammals. Guests can enjoy the thrill of boat-based whale and dolphin watching or even take a flight around the bay.
Hog Hollow is well known for its delectable food and friendly personalised service. Farmhouse breakfasts are served on the wooden deck overlooking the forest on crisp, clear days or indoors, near the huge fireplace, when it is cooler. This is the time of day that your hosts will help you plan your activities. In the evenings, guests enjoy scrumptious dinners in the comfort of the candle-lit main house. There are also two lounge areas; one leading out to the sun-drenched pool area whilst the other offers the privacy of a leafy garden, ideal for reading. The 'Inside-Out' bar offers a unique range of Cape wines.
Twelve individually decorated rooms offer uninterrupted views over the indigenous forests and the Tsitsikamma Mountains. The comfortable rooms, situated in the gardens surrounding the main house, are decorated in earthy colours, woven fabrics, African artefacts and handcrafted woods. Each room has its own wooden deck on which to relax and enjoy the peerless views, fitted with a hammock and wooden furniture and has a fireplace for when the nights turn chilly.
